Job summary

The City of Middletown, CT seeks a skilled equipment operator to maintain and repair the Water & Sewer system, lead workers, and train lower grades in field operations. You will be responsible for coordinating repairs and ensuring safe, compliant performance of duties.

Responsibilities include operating heavy equipment, installing mains, and performing minor electrical/plumbing tasks while maintaining detailed logs and responding to public inquiries during emergencies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required with water/sewer maintenance experience.
• Valid Class A CDL with tank endorsement (N) and ability to obtain CT DEP certifications.
• Must have or obtain Water Distribution Operation Certificate and safety certifications.

Responsibilities

• Lead workers and train lower grades in maintenance and repair tasks.
• Coordinate repairs on water/sewer system and equipment with supervisors.
• Operate and maintain light/heavy equipment and perform routine inspections.
• Install mains, valves, hydrants, sewers and other appurtenances; perform basic electrical/plumbing work.
• Maintain field records, respond to public inquiries during emergencies, and manage on-call duties.
