Job summary

Tradewind Group in Honolulu, HI is seeking a Senior Underwriter Manager to lead, mentor, and grow a team of underwriters focused on large commercial accounts. You will drive performance, training, and evaluations while ensuring compliance with company guidelines.

In this role, you will oversee underwriting of high-value, complex accounts, approve or decline based on risk and pricing, and collaborate with claims, actuarial, and risk control to optimize profitability and client service.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, risk management, or a related field.
• 7+ years of commercial underwriting experience, preferably in large accounts.
• 3+ years of supervisory or management experience in an underwriting environment.
• Attainment of or working towards Professional designations such as CPCU, AU, CIC, or ARM preferred.
• Valid Hawaii Driver’s license and use of own vehicle required; driving record favorable.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Underwriters specializing in large commercial accounts.
• Oversee and manage underwriting of large, complex accounts, ensuring compliance with guidelines and regulatory standards.
• Evaluate, approve, or decline high-value and high-risk accounts based on risk assessment, pricing, and market conditions.
• Provide guidance on coverage terms, product development, and pricing to maintain profitability and competitiveness.
• Collaborate with claims, actuarial, and risk control to review accounts and monitor performance.
• Build and maintain relationships with brokers, agents, and clients to ensure satisfaction and retention.
• Monitor industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes to adjust underwriting strategies.
• Lead by example, conduct coaching, and drive employee engagement and annual reviews.

Education
