Job summary

Fehr & Peers seeks a Transportation Design Engineer to lead evaluation, design, and delivery of transportation solutions for communities. You will generate conceptual designs, create PS&E documents, and collaborate with staff, clients, and the public, guiding projects from inception through construction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in transportation, civil or electrical engineering, urban and regional planning, or related major
• Currently hold or plan to hold a PE license
• Experience applying Caltrans, MUTCD, and AASHTO design standards
• Familiarity with signing, striping, and traffic signal plans
• Safety countermeasure design experience
• Understanding mobility issues in transportation engineering
• Experience leading proposals and nurturing client relationships
• Interest in mentoring and training staff
• Openness to using new tools and technologies with professional judgment

Responsibilities

• Leading and managing tasks for engineering and planning studies
• Performing field work, site review, and support during construction
• Preparing conceptual designs that are accurate, feasible, and visually engaging
• Preparing PS&E for transportation projects, including complete streets and signaling
• Managing direct client interaction and community engagement
• Marketing and bringing in new projects by nurturing client relationships and proposals
• Mentoring colleagues and receiving mentorship from senior staff
• Adopting new tools and techniques to improve day-to-day work
