Job summary

Fehr & Peers in Portland, OR is seeking a Transportation Design Engineer to lead evaluation, design, and PS&E for diverse transportation projects, collaborating with planning teams and clients.

You will develop conceptual designs, manage tasks, mentor staff, and drive business development while applying MUTCD and AASHTO standards to Oregon projects. PE licensed professionals preferred.

Qualifications

• 7–12 years of experience in transportation engineering consulting.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Experience applying MUTCD and AASHTO design standards on Oregon projects.
• Ability to lead business development and client engagement.

Responsibilities

• Build and strengthen relationships with public agencies, private-sector clients, developers, institutions, and other partners throughout the region.
• Identify and pursue new business opportunities, contributing to client strategy, proposals, interviews, and long-term relationship development.
• Collaborate with office and regional leadership to grow Fehr & Peers' presence and reputation in the local market.
• Mentoring and training your colleagues and receiving mentorship from senior staff
• Leading and managing tasks for engineering and planning studies
• Preparing conceptual designs that are accurate, feasible, and visually engaging
• Preparing plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) for transportation engineering projects, including complete streets, bikeways, traffic signal, signing/striping, and lighting projects
• Performing field work, such as site review preceding design, and support during construction
• Managing direct client interaction and communication with members of the public through community engagement
• Experience developing client relationships and contributing to practice growth through business development and repeat work.
