Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is seeking a Transportation Technician III to serve as lead inspector on North Carolina transportation construction projects. The role offers statewide opportunities and focuses on supervising inspection staff and verifying compliance with plans and specifications.

Work is field-based with strong communication and DOT standards knowledge; ability to manage records and public interactions.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field; five years of progressive technician-level experience
• Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans
• Knowledge of DOT standards and roadway drawings and specifications
• NCDOT certifications preferred: Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, Conventional Density Testing

Responsibilities

• Inspect contractor operations on transportation projects to verify conformance with plans and specifications
• Supervise and maintain subordinate inspection staff during construction
• Measure and track quantities of pay items
• Gather and maintain records including material certifications, testing reports, and diaries
• Interact with the public, government agencies, contractors, and other parties to respond to inquiries and resolve field issues
• Perform other related duties as assigned
