Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) seeks a Transportation Technician IV in North Carolina to serve as a lead inspector for transportation construction projects statewide. Candidate will supervise inspection staff, verify conformance to plans, and coordinate with public agencies and contractors.

Required associate degree and 7 years of progressive experience; DOT standards knowledge; NC DOT certifications preferred; TN visa not available. Work is field-based with potential statewide assignments.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum
• Seven (7) years of progressive technician level experience
• Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans
• Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking and completing projects independently or with limited supervision
• Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems
• Thorough understanding of DOT Standards and Specifications and Roadway Standard Drawings
• NCDOT certifications including Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Conventional Density Testing preferred
• Experience with local clients preferred

Responsibilities

• Perform inspection of contractor’s operations on a variety of transportation projects including roadway and bridge construction to verify conformance to plans and specifications
• Supervise and maintain subordinate inspection staff throughout construction of the project
• Measure and track quantities of pay items
• Gather and maintain record documents including material certifications, testing reports, and inspector’s daily diaries
• Interact with the public, government agencies, contractors, subcontractors, and other internal and external parties to respond to inquiries and resolve field issues
• Perform other related duties as assigned
