Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson is seeking a Transportation Technician III to act as a lead inspector on transportation construction projects in North Carolina. Statewide opportunities are available and there is a qualifier for TN visa for some candidates.

The role requires inspection of contractor operations, supervision of inspection staff, and records management, with focus on highway and bridge projects and DOT standards.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or related field.
• Active driver’s license.
• Five years of progressive technician level experience.
• Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans.
• Thorough understanding of DOT Standards and Specifications and Roadway Standard Drawings.
• NCDOT certifications such as Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Conventional Density Testing preferred.
• Experience with local clients preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspection of contractor’s operations on transportation projects including roadway and bridge construction to verify conformance to plans and specifications
• Supervise and maintain subordinate inspection staff throughout construction of the project
• Measure and track quantities of pay items
• Gather and maintain record documents including material certifications, testing reports, and inspector’s daily diaries
• Interact with the public, government agencies, contractors, subcontractors, and other internal and external parties to respond to inquiries and resolve field issues
• Perform other related duties as assigned
