The City of Davenport seeks a skilled mechanic to maintain and repair transit vehicles, lead a shop team, and ensure safe operation. You will diagnose defects, perform major and minor repairs, and oversee parts and records.

Starting pay is $29.77 per hour, with a 2PM–10PM shift. CDL training is provided on hire, and a comprehensive benefits package is offered, including health insurance and holidays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1 year of technical knowledge in major vehicle systems and diesel equipment required.
• 3–5 years experience as a skilled mechanic, preferably with heavy-duty diesel.
• Must obtain ASE Master Truck Technician (T Series) or ASE Master Transit Bus (H Series) within 1 year of hire.
• Must possess the recommended minimum hand tools for a Master Technician within 1 year.
• Must have valid driver’s license; CDL Permit with air brake and passenger endorsements within 30 days; CDL with air brake and passenger endorsements within 60 days.

Responsabilités

• Diagnose mechanical defects in transit vehicles.
• Perform major and minor mechanical repairs on buses; adjust brakes and clutches; overhaul controls, cylinders and transmissions.
• Fabricate parts using welding equipment and perform body repairs.
• Lead workers, assign tasks, and supervise mechanics and assistants.
• Maintain records of parts used, repairs, and time spent.
• Conduct road calls and road tests to diagnose malfunctions.
