Job summary

Cox Fleet is actively hiring a Sr. Shop Trailer Mechanic for an on-site shop position. The role focuses on certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, and light to heavy trailer repairs within a shop environment.

You will diagnose complex issues, work with the service writer, and maintain tool safety and documentation standards. A valid DOT medical card, ASE certifications, and CDL-A may be required for eligibility.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED with 5 years in related field (or equivalent with 3–7 years).
• 3 years of reefer experience.
• Own set of hand tools for duties.
• OEM training and certifications preferred.
• DOT/FMCSA regulation knowledge and DOT medical card requirements.
• Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate commerce.
• Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a Driver Qualification File.

Responsibilities

• Follow safe operating practices and procedures.
• Determine parts needs and liaise with Parts Department.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment and assist in daily cleanup.
• Apply formal training/experience to perform duties and interpret technical data.
• Collaborate with Service Writer to assess customer needs and estimates.
• Prioritize concurrent tasks and manage time allocations.
• Maintain integrity and confidentiality; adhere to policies.
• Perform PM, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs in shop.
• Perform routine maintenance such as oil checks and lubrication.
• Use hand tools, trailer tools, welding gear, lifts and jacks.
• Document work performed and parts used in RO using Karmak app.
• Complete DOT forms accurately and timely.
• Maintain productivity close to standard repair times.
• Coordinate with Shop Manager for approvals and PO numbers.
• Comply with safety, health, and environmental policies and regulations.
• Attend safety trainings and maintain shop trucks and inspections.
• Perform minor adjustments and repairs on trailer systems.
• Diagnose and repair trailer brakes, air lines, pumps, liftgates, etc.
• Identify problems using sound judgment and propose solutions.
• Assist diagnostics and parts sourcing for Shop Trailer Technicians.
• Support advanced diagnostics and triage.
