Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Thermal Engineer to lead the Thermal Protection System design for lunar landers within the Lunar Permanence unit. You will own TPS design, drive hardware solutions, and guide development and testing of new materials to meet thermal and mechanical requirements.

You will collaborate with subsystem teams and present results at program reviews, contributing to safe, high-performance spaceflight.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering is required.
• 9+ years of thermal engineering experience is expected.
• Solid understanding of thermal fundamentals and materials.
• Experience building/testing hardware in extreme environments.
• Familiarity with aerospace hardware verification processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead Thermal Protection System design, including material selection and analysis.
• Own TPS design delivery and hardware solution quality.
• Lead development and testing campaigns for new materials or stacks.
• Identify flight implementation and installation approaches.
• Balance hardware design vs. cost and schedule.
• Perform trade studies and coordinate with subsystems on trade-offs.
• Document results and present at program reviews.
• Communicate progress to leadership and in management reviews.
