Job summary

Blue Origin seeks a Thermal Engineer to join the Lunar Core Components Heat Transfer team. You will define and decompose vehicle thermal requirements into actionable specifications, and own heat transfer artifacts to ensure subsystem compatibility and safe, reliable lunar lander hardware.

You will drive verification planning, participate in design reviews, and support integration, testing, and launch activities with cross-functional teams, emphasizing safety and quality throughout the program.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in engineering and 3+ years related experience.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering, integration processes, design for manufacturing, and quality control.
  • Experience in requirement analysis, interface definition, and verification/validation.
  • Experience with flight integration and environmental qualification (thermal, vibration).
  • Experience with spacecraft thermal control hardware design.

Responsibilities

  • Define and decompose vehicle thermal requirements into actionable specs.
  • Develop and maintain ICDs for subsystem compatibility and integration fidelity.
  • Own heat transfer component artifacts such as specifications and safety documents.
  • Conduct trade studies and make/buy decisions for hardware selection.
  • Drive verification and environmental testing planning and execution.
  • Participate in hardware design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and ensure compliance.
  • Support integration, test, and launch operations with hardware team.
  • Assist in schedule management, procurement, and vendor coordination.
  • Identify process improvements and foster cross-functional collaboration.
  • Align component analysis data with vehicle and interfacing subsystems.
  • Review CONOPS and distill data for thermal teams.
  • Verify designs against documented requirements (temperature limits, QT).
  • Facilitate hardware risk, FMECA and FTA discussions.
