Job summary

Henderson Engineers in Lenexa, KS seeks a Lead Telecom Designer to join our Mission Critical practice. You will design advanced building systems, prepare documents, and mentor design staff while coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams.

Lead responsibilities include project leadership from concept through completion, QA, and client coordination. You’ll contribute to business development and maintain high standards across projects in critical facilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering and 9 years of relevant experience or 10 years with a high school diploma/equivalent.
• Certifications and accreditations aligned with the technical field (e.g., BEMP, CPD, CDP, NICET, RCDD).
• FE exam completion preferred.
• Sustainability certifications (CDP, LEED, WELL) preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of engineering design, codes, standards and A&E processes.
• Knowledge of earned value, contracts and construction processes.
• Proficiency in Revit and Bluebeam Revu.
• Strong verbal and written communication; ability to mentor others.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering tools.
• Self-starter, proactive, with ability to lead and manage.

Responsibilities

• Prepares or directs the preparation of design documents, drawings, schematics and specs.
• Leads project and design efforts from concept through completion.
• Reviews shop drawings for conformance to plans and specs.
• Evaluates products for application and feasibility of systems or equipment.
• Ensures drawings, reports and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost and quality.
• Mentors junior designers and engineers; may supervise staff.
• Leads staffing discussions and directs technical teams as needed.
• Develops and maintains relationships with partners and customers for business opportunities.
• Communicates with clients throughout the project lifecycle.
• Oversees quality control and adherence to design guidelines and standards.
• Supports project management with coordination, scheduling and deliverables.
• Keeps up-to-date with industry trends and evolving codes/standards.
