Job summary

Kapsch is seeking a Lead Systems Engineer to own the technical direction across hardware, software, and electrical engineering for tolling and roadside infrastructure programs. You will guide requirements, design, and delivery with a cross-disciplinary team, serving as the primary technical authority from bid to handoff.

This role emphasizes leadership, architecture design, and strong client engagement. Remote-friendly with multiple site options and heavy collaboration across disciplines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor''s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• PE license strongly preferred.
• 10+ years of professional IT and networking-focused experience.
• 5+ years implementing technical solutions in systems engineering.
• 4+ years across two or more engineering disciplines (electrical, mechanical, civil, structural, software, database, networking, or security).
• CCNA/CCNP or other networking certification.
• Experience with requirements engineering.
• Ability to lead technical conversations with customers and guide cross-functional collaboration.
• Strong presentation and client relationship skills.
• Curiosity, ownership, and team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical solution end-to-end—from bid-phase to delivery and handoff.
• Design and maintain full solution architecture (systems, interfaces, protocols, databases, networking, applications).
• Own cost estimation for Systems Engineering labor and Project Material/BOM.
• Serve as primary technical point of contact for clients—translating needs into buildable solutions and leading cross-functional teams.
• Build out the physical design layer—wiring diagrams, civil drawings, cable/conduit layouts.
• Set the technical direction and unblock the team when needed.
