Job summary

The City of Austin is seeking a Supervising Engineer to lead a project delivery team within the Watershed Protection Department. You will supervise, manage budgets, develop design criteria, review plans, and coordinate with contractors, consultants, and city staff to protect life and property from flooding and erosion.

Role requires a PE license in Texas (or ability to obtain within 6 months), 8+ years of engineering experience with 2+ years in leadership, and the ability to travel to multiple

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 8 years of related experience, including 2 years in a lead or supervisory capacity.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Texas; or eligible to obtain Texas P.E. license within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical advice and direction to internal and external customers and manage or supervise projects or programs.
• Develop, manage, and monitor the budgets of projects with short- and long-term planning.
• Develop and implement standard operating procedures, policies, codes, and ordinances while ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Review plans, specifications, change orders, and estimates; negotiate contract terms and changes.
• Lead coordination with consultants, contractors, and city departments; attend meetings and present to City Council and boards.
