Job summary

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. seeks a Senior Engineer – Physical, Substation to lead end-to-end substation design from 12kV to 500kV, applying NESC, NEC, IEEE, ASCE standards. You will mentor staff, coordinate with protection, civil, and field teams, and manage project delivery.

The role requires 5+ years in substation design, strong leadership, and a proven ability to coordinate multi-discipline projects in a client-facing environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in substation physical design engineering.
• Expertise in substation physical design, layouts, equipment arrangements, grounding systems, and constructability considerations.
• Strong knowledge of codes and standards (NESC, NEC, IEEE, ASCE) and client-specific requirements.
• Ability to lead development and review of complex engineering deliverables with high quality.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation physical design projects with full ownership of scope and deliverables.
• Provide direction for general arrangements, equipment layouts, and cable/conduit designs.
• Develop and approve complex designs for station configuration and constructability.
• Perform and oversee grounding, lightning protection, and bus fault studies.
• Review calculations for station service and DC requirements for accuracy and alignment with project needs.
• Develop equipment specifications and Bills of Materials for major components.
• Ensure adherence to applicable codes and client requirements across designs.
• Coordinate design integration across protection, civil, structural, and other disciplines.
• Lead client interactions, design reviews, and resolution of complex engineering issues.
• Mentor engineering staff and support professional development.
• Manage multiple projects with respect to schedule, quality, and budget.
