Job summary

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. seeks a Substation Project Engineer to lead the engineering and design of utility substations ranging from 12kV to 500kV. You will coordinate with protection & control, civil/site, structural, and transmission teams to meet schedule, budget, and quality goals.

You will support project planning, client interactions, and technical quality control while mentoring junior engineers and contributing to continuous improvement and standards development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 4+ years of experience in utility substation engineering and design.
• Experience with electric utility, renewable energy, industrial, or EPC clients.
• Knowledge of substation physical design, protection & control systems, grounding, relay applications, equipment specs, and calculations.
• Familiarity with IEEE, NESC, NEC, ANSI, and NETA standards.
• Experience using design software for substation projects.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering quality work.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering and design for utility substation projects from 12kV to 500kV.
• Prepare and review substation design packages including one-line diagrams and layouts.
• Coordinate with protection & control, civil/site, structural, and transmission teams.
• Support project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource forecasting.
• Ensure deliverables meet client requirements, standards, and quality procedures.
• Perform technical reviews of calculations, drawings, and docs.
• Serve as technical contact and support client meetings as needed.
• Support proposals, scope, estimates, and presentations.
• Coordinate with vendors and utility clients on specs and execution.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote technical excellence.
