Job summary

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Substation Project Engineer to join our Power Division and lead engineering and design of utility substations from 12kV to 500kV. The role collaborates with PMs, engineers, designers, and clients to meet schedule, budget and quality goals.

You will review design packages, coordinate across disciplines, and support planning, budgeting, and client meetings while mentoring junior staff. PE license preferred.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Electrical Engineering degree required.
• 4+ years in utility substation engineering and design.
• Experience with electric utility, renewable energy, industrial or EPC clients.
• Knowledge of substation physical design, protection & control, grounding, relay applications, equipment specs.
• Familiar with IEEE, NESC, NEC, ANSI, and NETA standards.
• Experience using engineering/design software for substation projects.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering high-quality results.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering and design for utility substation projects from 12kV to 500kV.
• Coordinate with protection & control, civil/site, structural, and transmission teams.
• Prepare and review substation design packages (one-line diagrams, layouts, grounding, conduit plans).
• Support project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource forecasting.
• Ensure deliverables meet client requirements, standards, and quality procedures.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers for technical excellence.
