Job summary

Michels Power, Inc. is seeking a Preconstruction Manager - Substation Estimating to lead substation preconstruction activities and act as the primary technical SME supporting the estimating team.

You will oversee estimate development, validate technical assumptions, evaluate execution strategies, identify risks, and help position projects for successful execution across utility, transmission, distribution, renewables, and EPC substation opportunities.

Qualifications

• Requires strong technical expertise in utility substation construction, transmission and distribution infrastructure.
• Experience leading or supporting preconstruction efforts and estimate development.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specs, one-line diagrams and electrical work packages.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation preconstruction activities and provide technical oversight throughout pursuit lifecycle.
• Serve as the SME for substation estimating, constructability reviews, and execution planning.
• Support estimating teams with planning, technical reviews, strategy development, and proposal preparation.
• Review project specs, drawings, and customer standards for estimate completeness and accuracy.
• Evaluate labor productivity assumptions, construction methods, and equipment needs.
• Promote consistency and continuous improvement across preconstruction processes.
