Job summary

Michels Power, Inc. is seeking a Preconstruction Manager - Substation Estimating to lead preconstruction activities and serve as the SME for substation estimating.

You will guide estimate development, validate technical assumptions, and shape strategies across projects in transmission, distribution, renewable energy storage, and EPC substations. You will collaborate with estimating, engineering, procurement, operations, and business development to develop competitive proposals and executable

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field with 10+ years in substation/EPC work.
• Strong experience leading preconstruction, estimating, constructability reviews.
• Proficient in interpreting drawings, one-line diagrams, and protection/controls docs.
• Experience in utility transmission, distribution, renewable energy storage projects.
• Proven leadership and mentoring abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation preconstruction activities and provide technical oversight.
• Act as SME for substation estimating, constructability reviews, and execution planning.
• Support estimating teams with planning, technical reviews, strategy development, and proposal preparation.
• Review project specifications, drawings, and requirements to ensure estimate completeness and accuracy.
• Evaluate labor productivity assumptions, methodologies, equipment needs, and execution plans.
• Develop training programs to strengthen estimating capabilities across the organization.
