Job summary

Dashiell, an operating unit of Quanta Services, is seeking a Supervising Substation Engineer in Chicago, IL. You will oversee engineering teams, ensure quality, schedule, and profitability, and coordinate with construction to meet milestones.

Requires a PE license, a BS in Electrical Engineering, 15+ years in power/substation design, and leadership experience. Travel and compliance with NEC/NESC/IEEE/ANSI are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE); license within one year if not in the practicing state.
• Minimum of 15 years of experience in the electrical power industry, with substation design knowledge.
• Experience supervising a design team with multiple engineers, designers, and drafters.
• Extensive knowledge of high-voltage substations (138 kV and above) and AC/DC fundamentals.
• Proficient in engineering standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI) and common engineering software.
• Strong communication and leadership to coordinate across departments.

Responsibilities

• Oversee profitability, quality, and schedule performance of engineering teams.
• Coordinate with construction and purchasing to meet milestones.
• Assign projects to engineering teams based on requirements and personnel availability.
• Ensure design adherence to project standards and progress toward goals.
• Manage schedules and budgets; track progress and adjust as needed.
• Apply engineering software for ground grid design, relay coordination, transformer sizing, and fault studies.
• Supervise multiple project teams and coordinate with management to set goals.
