Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Staff Substation Engineer in Denver, CO, to support high-voltage substation projects from concept through construction. You will develop design packages, perform electrical studies, and collaborate with project teams to meet budget and client needs.

The role requires an ABET-accredited engineering degree and 3 years of substation experience (FE/Engineer-in-Training preferred).

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree required; 3+ years substation engineering experience preferred.
• Electrical/Mechanical engineering option with FE exam eligibility.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Supports substation projects from conceptual phase through completion.
• Prepares design packages: arrangement, relaying, protection, grounding, lighting, security.
• Develops substation calculations: insulation, DC systems, voltage drop, cable sizing, conduit fill.
• Prepares drawings, BOMs, equipment specs, and cost estimates.
• Supports field inspections and QA/QC procedures.
• Assists in client presentations and project status reporting.
• Maintains project schedules with project managers.
• Performs design quality reviews and communicates issues with clients.
