Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Staff Substation Engineer to develop design deliverables for high-voltage substations from concept through construction. You will support project teams, perform electrical studies, and prepare schedules and cost estimates, ensuring QA/QC compliance.

The role emphasizes collaboration with clients and teams, offering growth toward leadership and potential ENG/EIT certification. Travel and on-site fieldwork are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field from ABET-accredited program with 3 years of substation engineering experience.
• Electrical engineering technology degree with FE exam passed and 3 years of substation experience accepted.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient with MS Office and related tools.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated leadership and ability to work in a collaborative team.
• EIT certification preferred for Engineers in Training.

Responsibilities

• Develop design deliverables for high-voltage substation projects from concept through completion.
• Prepare substation design packages: arrangement, relaying, grounding, studies, lighting, and security.
• Perform insulation, voltage drop, cable sizing, and conduit fill calculations.
• Support field inspections and client presentations; assist in proposals and status reports.
• Ensure deliverables meet internal QA/QC guidelines and project schedules.
• Communicate issues and resolutions with project managers and clients.
