Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Denver, CO is seeking an Assistant Substation Engineer to assist licensed engineers in design deliverables for high-voltage substation projects (13kV to 765kV). You will work with the project team through design and construction, adapting plans for budget and client needs.

Responsibilities include assisting with substation design packages, calculations, field inspections, data collection, client presentations, and QA/QC adherence, while developing technical skills and

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field required.
• ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
• Campus/community involvement preferred; internship/consulting experience also preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Assist in substation design from conceptual phase through completion.
• Prepare substation design packages: physical arrangement, relaying/control, grounding/lighting, and security.
• Develop substation calculations: insulation, station service, DC systems, battery sizing, voltage drop, cable sizing, conduit fill.
• Prepare design sketches, cost estimates, BOMs, specifications and deliverables.
• Assist with field inspections of substation facilities.
• Assist with project data, client presentations, and progress reports.
• Ensure deliverables meet QA/QC guidelines and project schedules.
