Job summary

General Dynamics NASSCO in Norfolk, VA is seeking a Structural Shop Foreman to lead a crew of 8–20 mechanics and trainees in the Steel Shop. You will plan, schedule, assign daily work, monitor safety, quality, and production targets while coordinating with the General Foreman and other shops.

The ideal candidate has ship repair/shipbuilding experience, strong leadership and communication skills, and proficiency in project planning and MS Office. U.S. citizenship required.

Qualifications

• BA/BS or equivalent with ship repair experience.
• Deep knowledge of ship repair and craftsmanship.
• Experience with contracting and estimating procedures.
• Strong production-process, quality, and technology understanding.
• Proven leadership and team-building abilities with good communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of 8-20 mechanics and workers to meet safety, quality, schedule, and cost goals.
• Develop 1-2 week work schedules and review progress with the General Foreman.
• Assign daily work and set expectations for production staff.
• Monitor performance and enforce corrective actions when needed.
• Ensure proper tooling, equipment, and resources for jobs.
• Coordinate with other shops and attend production meetings to hit targets.
• Oversee safety and adherence to the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
