Job summary

Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services in Montclair, NJ is hiring a full-time Sous Chef. The role supports the Executive Chef, coordinates kitchen activities, and assumes leadership in the chef’s absence.

The candidate will cook to approved recipes, supervise staff, and ensure food safety and sanitation throughout the operation. The position requires strong customer service skills and a ServSafe certification.

Qualifications

• Prior customer service experience is required.
• ServSafe certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Cooks and prepares food following approved recipes and production standards.
• Supervises hourly food service associates, including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, and reviews.
• Stores food following sanitation procedures and maintains safe temperatures.
• Interacts with customers to resolve complaints in a friendly, service-oriented manner.
• Keeps track of inventory, production, and waste and informs supervisor when supplies are low.
