Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Lead Professional, Signal Engineer-CBTC to join our Transit and Rail/Systems Engineering teams in New York or New Jersey offices. The role covers CBTC and fixed-block signaling, interlocking logic, and migration planning with NYCT standards.

Ideal candidates understand relay-based and software-based interlocking, have experience supporting NYCT projects, and can coordinate with suppliers, designers, and NYCT Operations to ensure design acceptance and safe migration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, systems, or railway engineering.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in fixed-block and/or CBTC signaling design/maintenance.
  • Proven record of reviewing and coordinating block design packages for mixed-mode operation.
  • Experience developing or reviewing interlocking logic test procedures and software state machines.
  • Understanding NYCT signal principles, practices, and legacy control systems.
  • Familiarity with signal design standards and interlocking concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical review and approval of block design drawings for mixed-mode operation.
  • Serve as liaison between CBTC supplier, designer, and NYCT operations.
  • Review interlocking logic in relay-based and CBTC software for safety compliance.
  • Review and approve test procedures related to interlocking logic and signal control sequences.
  • Evaluate software state machine logic used to implement interlocking in CBTC subsystems.
  • Ensure interoperability, safety, and maintainability during migration to CBTC.
  • Support interface alignment between CBTC zone controllers, relays, and field equipment.
  • Participate in design and field reviews with NYCT Engineering and operations teams.
  • Track and report design deliverables and test progress; resolve design comments.
  • Perform additional responsibilities to assist CBTC and fixed-block integration.
