Job summary

WSP USA seeks a Lead Professional, Signal Engineer-CBTC to join our Transit and Rail/Systems Engineering teams in NY/NJ offices including Lawrenceville. You will drive CBTC migration projects, review mixed-mode signaling designs, and ensure safety-compliant interlocking logic and test procedures.

The role requires deep expertise in CBTC and fixed-block systems, collaboration with NYCT operations, and liaison with suppliers and designers to achieve reliable, safe signaling solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, systems, or railway engineering.
  • 7+ years of experience in fixed-block and/or CBTC signaling.
  • Experience reviewing and coordinating block design packages for mixed-mode signaling.
  • Experience developing or reviewing interlocking logic test procedures and software state machines.
  • Understanding NYCT signal principles and legacy control systems.
  • Familiarity with interlocking design standards and CBTC interfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical review and approval of block design drawings for mixed-mode operation.
  • Liaise between CBTC supplier, designer, and NYCT operations on signal design and block approval.
  • Review interlocking logic implementation in relay-based and CBTC subsystems.
  • Approve test procedures for interlocking logic and signal control sequences.
  • Evaluate software state machines used for interlocking in CBTC systems.
  • Ensure interoperability, safety, and maintainability during migration to CBTC.
  • Support interface alignment between CBTC zone controllers, relays, and field equipment.
  • Participate in design and field reviews with NYCT teams.
  • Track and report design deliverables and test progress.
  • Adhere to WSP Code of Conduct and perform additional duties as needed.
