Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Lead Professional, Signal Engineer-CBTC to join our Transit and Rail/Systems Engineering practice. This role supports NYCT CBTC migrations from multiple offices in New York and New Jersey.

The ideal candidate has deep experience with fixed-block and CBTC interlocking logic, participates in design reviews, testing, and field coordination, and can communicate findings clearly with suppliers, designers, and NYCT operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, systems, or railway engineering.
  • 7+ years in fixed-block and/or CBTC signaling design/maintenance.
  • Experience reviewing block design packages for mixed-mode operation.
  • Experience developing/interpreting interlocking logic test procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical review and approval of block design drawings for mixed-mode operation.
  • Serve as liaison between CBTC supplier, designer, and NYCT operations for signal design coordination.
  • Review interlocking logic implementations in relay-based and CBTC subsystems for safety and operational compliance.
  • Review and approve interlocking test procedures, signal aspects, and control sequences.
  • Evaluate software state machines for CBTC interlocking functionality.
  • Ensure interoperability, safety, and maintainability during migration to CBTC.
  • Support interface alignment between CBTC zone controllers, relay interlockings, and field equipment.
  • Participate in design and field review meetings with NYCT teams.
