Whitsons Culinary Group is seeking a Lead Food Service Worker in Downers Grove, IL to head daily meal service for students. You will supervise kitchen tasks, manage serving lines, and coordinate with staff to maintain nutrition standards and safety protocols.

This role emphasizes leadership, reliability, and teamwork in a school lunch program with a family-friendly schedule and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required and training as needed.
• 2–3 years of professional food service experience preferred; lead or supervisory experience in school nutrition or institutional settings is a plus.
• ServSafe certification required or willingness to obtain; local certification may be required.
• Ability to read menus, recipes, yield guides, and keep production records with accuracy.
• Must be reliable, professional, and capable of leading a team in a fast-paced kitchen.
• Fluency in English and ability to communicate with staff, parents, and students.

Responsibilities

• Take the lead in preparing and serving meals that meet nutrition and portion guidelines.
• Handle daily ordering, receiving, and storage of food, beverages, and supplies.
• Keep the kitchen running smoothly by organizing cleaning duties and ensuring food safety.
• Set up hot and cold serving lines, brew coffee, and keep beverage areas stocked.
• Deliver meals to classrooms, staff, or catered events as needed.
• Manage POS/cash handling and ensure deposits are accurate.
• Be a key player on a supportive, mission-driven team.
