Job summary

Kiewit is seeking a Safety Manager for transportation/infrastructure on Bay Area or Sacramento projects. The role blends safety management with field oversight to protect staff, craft workers, subcontractors and consultants.

You will develop and implement safety programs, train teams and monitor compliance. Based with the Northern California District, travel to project sites is required and you’ll work under the Safety department, reporting to district leadership; a strong track record in OSHA

Qualifications

  • Education in OH&S, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years in construction safety management.
  • Craft experience highly preferred.
  • OSHA 30-hour construction safety training within last 5 years.
  • CHST certification required; CSP/EM385/CPR/First Aid/EMT certifications preferred.
  • Willingness to travel and relocate to project sites.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of a safety program on projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive safety plans and procedures for heavy civil, transportation, and water resource projects.
  • Ensure safety protocols align with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and Kiewit's safety standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to identify hazards and assess safety risks.
  • Training and Education: Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and subcontractors.
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability across all levels of the organization.
  • Incident Management and Investigation: Lead investigations into safety incidents, near misses, and accidents.
  • Analyze root causes of incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Ensure timely reporting of all safety incidents in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed about changes in safety regulations and standards applicable to heavy civil, transportation, and water resource construction.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory agencies. Coordinate with regulatory authorities during inspections and audits.
  • Safety Performance Monitoring: Establish KPIs to measure safety performance on projects.
  • Conduct regular assessments and audits to evaluate adherence to safety standards and identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide timely and accurate safety reports to project management and senior leadership.
