Job summary

NC Department of Transportation seeks a lead roadway/structure inspector to support engineers in highway construction administration. You will monitor contractor operations, review test reports, and manage pay records to ensure work meets plans and permits.

The role requires effective communication, ability to train staff, and willingness to work outside with physical demands, including lifting up to 50 lbs. Night/weekend hours may be required.

Qualifications

• Understanding, interpreting, and analyzing contracts, plans, standards, and specs for highway construction.
• Experience inspecting, sampling, and testing materials to ensure compliance with specs.
• Ability to plan, schedule, track, and complete projects with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

• Monitor contractor operations and review test reports for conformance to contract provisions.
• Manage pay records, material receipts, certified payroll, haul tickets and monthly estimates.
• Train and supervise lower-level technicians and coordinate with engineers and contractors.
