Job summary

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking an RN Supervisor (Clinician) Advanced Specialty Care for full-time work on a rotating shift. The role leads a nursing unit, provides direct patient care when needed, and mentors staff on the unit.

The position requires an active New York State RN license, ACLS and BCLS certification, and at least two years of acute care experience; a unit-specific specialty credential is preferred.

Qualifications

• Two years post-licensure acute care experience.
• Two years of specialization experience preferred.
• ACLS and BCLS certification required; unit-specific cert preferred.
• Current New York State RN license.

Responsibilities

• Assumes Charge RN role on unit and supervises nursing staff.
• Delivers nursing care to all assigned patients.
• Develops initial nursing assessment and interdisciplinary plan within eight hours of admission.
• Reviews/revises plan of care as patient condition changes (at least every 24 hours).
• Prepares daily patient care assignments based on patient needs and staff credentials.
• Administers medications and treatments per physician orders.
• Provides documented patient/family teaching; ensures alignment with physician instructions.
• Acts as preceptor to nursing personnel and students on the unit.
• Demonstrates advanced clinical knowledge and supervises care quality.
• Completes yearly evaluations and competencies with nurse manager.
