Job summary

George Mason University seeks a Manager of Research Computing Services to lead a team responsible for designing, deploying, and operating the university’s research computing infrastructure. You will manage HPC resources, storage platforms, GPU-enabled systems, and OpenStack-based private cloud environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience administering Linux server or multi-user computing system and cloud/virtualized hosting environment.
• Experience in supervisory or project management roles.
• Experience providing technical support to researchers.
• Experience leading a cyberinfrastructure implementation project.
• Significant experience in a systems administration/engineering role in a multi-user environment.
• Knowledge of HPC cluster technologies, InfiniBand, and parallel programming with MPI.
• Knowledge of batch schedulers such as SLURM.
• Knowledge of high-performance storage systems.
• Expert knowledge of Linux server OS.
• Demonstrated team leadership, service mindset, and ability to advise researchers.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and direction to the Research Computing Services team, including planning, scheduling, and coaching.
• Align resources to support computing, storage, visualization, and cloud needs of the university research community.
• Foster collaboration, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement in service delivery.
• Monitor workload and ensure timely delivery of services and support; conduct performance evaluations.
• Lead design, deployment, operation, and improvement of research computing infrastructure and services.
• Oversee HPC resources, research storage, GPU computing, visualization, and OpenStack private cloud.
