Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Project Archaeologist to support a growing cultural resources team across the Eastern region, focusing on NHPA compliance, Phase I–III studies, and complex project management. The role includes field supervision, reporting, and coordinating with internal managers on large-scale programs.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s in anthropology/archaeology with 7+ years of cultural resources experience, and is capable of leading field crews while ensuring safety and quality

Qualifications

• Professional writing and communication skills.
• Meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards for Archaeology and Historic Preservation (48 FR §44716).
• Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) or eligible for RPA.
• Experience leading and conducting archaeological and cultural resource field investigations.
• Demonstrated leadership in improving technical performance and innovation.
• Ability to convey safety information to field staff.
• Experience with NHPA compliance and regional regulations.
• Experience with GIS and digital data collection methods.

Responsibilities

• Act as task manager for complex, high-profile cultural resource investigations for diverse clients.
• Supervise field personnel; maintain paperwork, maps, notes, photos, vehicles and equipment.
• Apply knowledge of Phase I–III archaeological investigations and research design.
• Contribute to archaeological assessments and Phase I–III reports.
• Liaise between cultural resources team and project managers on large projects.
• Coordinate between field staff, senior investigators, and project managers.
• Support HSSE policies and guidelines in execution of work.
• Provide supervision, training, and mentoring to staff.
• Travel within the Mid-Atlantic region; additional travel may be required.
