Stantec is seeking a Project Archaeologist with demonstrated experience in the Mid-Atlantic, Southeast and general Eastern region, as well as NHPA requirements. The role supports a growing cultural resources team for a leading environmental consulting firm.

The project involves task management, field crew supervision, and technical reporting under senior leadership. Travel within the Mid-Atlantic region is required, with potential additional travel outside the region.

Qualifications

  • Professional writing and communication skills are essential.
  • Meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards for Archaeology and Historic Preservation.
  • RPA credential or eligible.
  • Experience leading archaeological field investigations and cultural resource projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership to improve technical performance and foster innovation.
  • Ability to mentor staff and manage safety in field operations.
  • Strong project delivery direction and safety communication.
  • Proficient in GIS and field data collection techniques.
  • Clean driving record and valid license.

Responsibilities

  • Act as task manager for complex cultural resource investigations across multiple sectors.
  • Supervise field personnel; maintain field records, maps, notes, photos, and equipment.
  • Apply knowledge of NHPA and Phase I–III archaeological investigations.
  • Contribute to archaeological reports and assessments.
  • Coordinate with project managers and field staff on large projects.
  • Participate in HSSE policies and guidelines for all work.
  • Provide supervision and mentoring to developing staff.
  • Travel within the Mid-Atlantic region; longer travel possible.
