Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Project Archaeologist to support a growing cultural resources team in the Mid-Atlantic region with NHPA Section 106 compliance. The role emphasizes task management, field crew supervision, and high-quality technical reporting for a variety of federal, state, and private clients.

You will lead field crews, coordinate with project managers, and ensure safety and compliance across projects, with travel within the Mid-Atlantic region.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in anthropology/archaeology or related discipline.
  • 7+ years of progressively responsible cultural resources positions.
  • Minimum 7 years in cultural resource management and archaeological surveys in the Northeast.
  • Experience leading field crews and NHPA compliance knowledge.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Experience in renewable energy, utilities, and transportation sectors.
  • Experience with GIS and digital data collection methods.

Responsibilities

  • Act as task manager for complex, high-profile cultural resource investigations for various clients and sectors.
  • Supervise field personnel and maintain daily field paperwork, maps, notes, photographs, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Apply goals and strategies in archaeological assessments and Phase I, II, and III investigations.
  • Contribute to archaeological assessment and Phase I–III reports.
  • Liaise between cultural resources team and internal project managers on large projects.
  • Coordinate between field staff, senior investigators, and project managers.
  • Support HSSE policies and guidelines.
  • Provide supervision and mentoring to staff.
  • Travel within the Mid-Atlantic region is required; additional travel possible.
