Job summary

The Kroger Co. is seeking a Produce Department Manager in Birmingham, MI to lead a busy produce department. You will implement company policies, drive sales and profits, and uphold Kroger’s values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

Qualifications

• Willing to be flexible with shifts (mornings, afternoons, evenings, nights) and able to work weekends/holidays.
• Understanding of department operations: managing people, merchandising, inventory, and labor scheduling.
• Working knowledge of produce operations, price marking, and store operations.

Responsibilities

• Develop maximum customer relations by lead by example in friendliness and courtesy and by implementing company policies.
• Be alert and assist in store security.
• Handle customer complaints with tact and professionalism.
• Participate in hiring, evaluating, and disciplining produce department staff.
• Ensure staff can read scales and prices and provide proper price marking training.
• Supervise all aspects of salad bar operations.
• Coordinate schedules for full- and part-time staff to maximize efficiency.
• Maintain clean and neat appearance of department staff and uniforms.
• Communicate effectively with all store personnel.
• Plan and control the activities of the produce department; may act in store manager's absence.
• Direct receiving, storing, pricing, and merchandising of all produce.
• Maintain adequate stock through proper ordering and control inventories.
• Maintain records and reports; ensure housekeeping and sanitation in all areas.
• Ensure supplies (bags, pricing, equipment) are on hand.
• Continuously analyze space, display, pricing, rotation, inventories, and staffing; propose improvements.
• Promote company initiatives and process improvements to direct reports.
• Be professional, prompt, and courteous in all interactions.
• Demonstrate ability to manage people and workloads.
• Perform duties as assigned by store manager/supervisor.
• Work well in high-paced and sometimes stressful environments.
• Handle conflicts in a constructive manner.
• Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
• Follow directions and seek help when resolving issues.
