Job summary

Humana, Inc. is seeking a seasoned Lead Software Engineer to architect and deliver real-time NBA platform services at scale. You will own the State Machine and Transactional Outbox, mentor a team, and drive production readiness across Java, Python, Node.js, and TypeScript.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of full stack software engineering experience, with 1–2 years leading platform reliability, quality engineering, SRE, or production operations initiatives.
• Strong experience building production software across Java, Python, Node.js, or TypeScript.
• Hands-on experience designing automated testing frameworks, including integration, end-to-end, load testing, and quality automation.
• Strong observability practices: structured logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring, and alerting.
• Experience designing reliability patterns for distributed systems (fault tolerance, retries, resilience, recovery).
• Experience operating cloud-native apps on Kubernetes and container platforms.
• Clear communicator who can articulate risks and tradeoffs to technical leaders and executives.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools (Claude, GitHub Copilot) to improve productivity and quality.

Responsibilities

• Pod delivery — Own delivery for the platform scale and reliability pod, including planning, execution, quality, and operational readiness.
• Platform reliability — Own uptime, performance, resilience, and operational excellence across platform services.
• Quality engineering — Build and maintain automated testing frameworks across unit, integration, end-to-end, regression, and performance testing.
• Hands-on development — Contribute production code, build reliability tooling, test automation, observability capabilities, and platform infra improvements.
• Observability and monitoring — Own logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and monitoring strategy across environments.
• Error and failure management — Define patterns for exception handling, fault tolerance, recovery, and diagnostics.
• Scalability engineering — Evaluate behavior under load and lead performance and cost-efficiency initiatives.
• Production readiness — Define release readiness criteria and quality gates for production ownership.
• Team leadership — Mentor engineers and contractors; perform code reviews and uphold standards.
• Cross-team coordination — Partner with decisioning, orchestration, activation, platform, and data teams.
