Job summary

MyMichigan Health is seeking a Lead Phlebotomist to coordinate the work of designated personnel while performing phlebotomy duties in a busy hospital setting in Michigan. You will supervise shifts, troubleshoot issues, perform venipuncture, specimen collection, ensure specimen integrity, and maintain high quality results while delivering excellent patient service.

Requires formal phlebotomy program and hospital experience; ASCP preferred; ability to lead and train staff; compliance with LIS/HIS

Qualifications

• Completion of a formal phlebotomy program with practical experience or equivalent.
• Minimum hospital laboratory experience of 6 months.
• Leadership and strong communication skills; able to supervise staff.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate shift staffing and adjust coverage as needed.
• Serve as technical expert and initial resource for questions.
• Perform venipuncture and other test procedures per protocol.
• Develop and implement best-practice workflows with supervisors.
• Provide excellent patient service and educate laboratory clients on protocols.
• Accurately interpret physician orders and ensure specimen quality.
• Handle specimens and ensure fast, reliable test results; prepare esoteric specimens for shipment.
