Job summary

Covenant HealthCare in Saginaw, MI seeks a Lead Inpatient Phlebotomist to provide exceptional patient service while supervising staffing in the absence of Laboratory leadership. Responsibilities include venipuncture collection, training staff, coordinating specimen transport, and performing moderate complexity ACT testing under Medical Director.

Requires ASCP within 6 months and 1–3 years of phlebotomy experience.

Qualifications

• High School education or equivalent.
• ASCP certification within 6 months of hire and ongoing maintenance.
• 1–3 years phlebotomy experience.
• Knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Positive attitude and dependable team player.

Responsibilities

• Assist in training new employees under direct control of the Coordinator or Lead.
• Collect specimens by venipuncture or skin puncture in a timely fashion.
• Identify patients according to procedures at all times.
• Transport specimens promptly and ensure proper labeling.
• Perform ACT testing under supervision and authorized methodologies.
• Maintain QC records and equipment temperature checks.
• Notify leadership of staffing or workflow issues and adjust staffing as needed.
• Provide shift support and assist leadership with on-call duties.
