Job summary

Cognizant is seeking a Lead Performance Test Engineer to lead performance engineering for enterprise and cloud-native applications. This hands-on role requires deep expertise in performance testing, automation, cloud platforms, observability, and resiliency.

You will collaborate with development, architecture, platform engineering, DevOps, and SRE teams to establish performance standards, implement automated quality gates, and identify bottlenecks to improve scalability and operational readiness.

Qualifications

• At least 10 years of hands-on experience in performance testing or non-functional testing for enterprise apps.
• Hands-on expertise with NeoLoad or comparable tools, including design, modeling, execution, analysis.
• Experience integrating automated performance tests into CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI/CD or similar).
• Hands-on AWS cloud services experience and cloud-native architectures (EC2, ECS, EKS, Lambda, RDS, S3, CloudWatch).
• Programming/scripting in Python, Java, SQL, and shell; testing REST APIs and microservices.
• Observability tools (Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus, Elastic Stack) for diagnosing performance issues.
• Containerized environments and orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker, OpenShift, ECS, EKS).
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management; willingness to support off-hours testing when needed.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute performance, load, stress, endurance, scalability, and capacity-testing strategies for enterprise apps and cloud services.
• Build and maintain automated performance-testing frameworks and tools.
• Integrate performance testing into CI/CD pipelines with thresholds and quality gates.
• Analyze performance across app, database, infrastructure, network, and cloud layers to identify bottlenecks and optimization opportunities.
• Use AWS and observability platforms to troubleshoot complex performance issues.
• Plan Chaos Engineering and resiliency-testing to evaluate fault tolerance and recovery capabilities.
• Develop automation utilities to improve testing efficiency and reduce manual effort.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define performance KPIs, standards, capacity needs, and improvement plans.
