Job summary

Payabli in Miami seeks a Principal Payments Engineer to own the Payments Core, consolidating money movement, batching, funding, reconciliation, and ledgering at scale. You will be the most senior IC, reporting to the CTO during build-out, and set the foundation for critical financial rails used by hundreds of paypoints.

You’ll define APIs, ensure exactly-once settlement, orchestrate multi-rail payments, and establish reliability, observability, and RFC-driven processes from day one.

Qualifications

• 12+ years building production payments or financial systems.
• Experience owning architecture for large-scale money movement.
• Proven ability to design idempotent, exactly-once payment flows.
• Experience with multi-rail settlements and reconciliation.
• Strong API design and system reliability focus.

Responsibilities

• Guarantee correctness at scale for payments, ensuring exactly-once execution.
• Define internal/external API surface and versioning strategies.
• Direct multi-rail money movement across ACH, wire, RTP, and card networks.
• Own batching, funding, and reconciliation with real-time integrity.
• Build reliability and observability, including RFCs and monitoring.
• Set hiring and engineering standards for the payments team.
