Job summary

Bank of America is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the engineering approach for its payments and external account management platform, driving secure, scalable solutions and modernization.

You will mentor multiple teams, define technology strategy, and collaborate with Product, Architecture, Infrastructure, Security, and Ops to deliver mission-critical services while advancing cloud-native and event-driven architectures.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of software engineering experience with significant experience in enterprise payments platforms.
• Deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, microservices, Oracle, and Kafka.
• Strong knowledge of microservices architectures and high-volume transaction systems.
• Proven ability to lead large-scale modernization and transformation initiatives.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management, and technical leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the engineering approach for the program/portfolio solution; define tech strategy and architecture.
• Drive architecture decisions to ensure platform reliability and scalable payment solutions.
• Collaborate with Product, Architecture, Infrastructure, Security, Operations, and Business teams to modernize payment capabilities.
• Establish engineering standards and mentor senior developers across teams; oversee design reviews and code in the domain.
• Explore and apply state-of-the-art technologies to improve development efficiency and release management.
