Job summary

Virginia Beach City Public Schools is seeking a dedicated custodian to maintain cleanliness across classrooms, hallways, gymnasiums, and cafeterias. The role includes training and supervising other staff, securing buildings, and performing routine maintenance and light repairs.

The position is full-time with multiple shifts; candidates should be comfortable lifting, standing, and working in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Must have knowledge of effective cleaning techniques and routine preventive maintenance.
• Ability to learn and operate cleaning equipment and tools.
• Ability to supervise other custodial staff and maintain morale.

Responsibilities

• May serve as the head night custodian in an elementary school.
• Secure building; take out trash, clean bathrooms, hallways, classrooms, and gym.
• Mop and buff the halls.
• Clean the cafeteria after school activities.
• Replace lights; restock paper towel and toilet paper dispensers.
• Clean and dust high/low surfaces, desks, walls, chalkboards and fixtures.
• Care for bathroom stalls, sinks, and dispensers; sweep/mop floors.
• Clean gym, water fountains, and clean up after activities.
• Occasionally supervise Custodian I’s.
• Set up and pick up chairs and trash.
• Perform related work as required.
