Job summary

Virginia Beach City Public Schools seeks an experienced custodian to perform intermediate to high level cleaning and oversee fellow custodial staff. Responsibilities include maintaining classrooms, restrooms, cafeterias, and hallways while ensuring security and proper setup for events.

The role supports a clean and safe school environment, with duties extending to coordinating deliveries, responding to incidents, and assisting during staff shortages.

Qualifications

• Must have GED or some high school with considerable custodial experience.
• Preferred: High School Diploma.
• Training and experience may substitute minimum qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform intermediate to high level custodial tasks to keep school buildings, grounds and furnishings clean.
• Supervise custodial staff and daily operations.
• Clean classrooms, restrooms, cafeterias, hallways, and offices to maintain a sanitary environment.
• Ensure doors are locked and secured; accept deliveries and manage supplies.
• Set up and break down for special events and activities.
• Coordinate with groups (PTA, churches) for events and facility use.
• Serve as school representative during Fire Marshall and sprinkler inspections.
• Inspect buildings, replace lights, and maintain overall cleanliness.
