Job summary

Virginia Beach City Public Schools is seeking an intermediate custodian to maintain cleanliness of school buildings and surrounding grounds. The role includes supervising other custodial staff and occasionally serving as head night custodian in an elementary school.

Responsibilities include securing buildings, trash removal, bathroom and hallway cleaning, mopping, and maintaining lights and dispensers. Hours are 2:00 p.m.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of effective cleaning techniques and routine preventive maintenance.
• Ability to learn and operate cleaning machines and equipment.
• Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
• Ability to supervise other custodians and work with school staff.

Responsibilities

• Secure building and perform general custodial duties (trash, bathrooms, halls, classroom, gym).
• Mop, buff, and clean floors and surfaces; clean cafeteria after activities.
• Replace lights and maintain dispensers (paper towels, toilet paper).
• Dust, wipe desks and chalkboards, clean bathrooms and sinks, mop floors.
• Clean gym and water fountains; supervise Custodian I as needed.
