Job summary

Forgent Power Solutions, Inc. is seeking a Level 5 Switchgear Field Engineer to lead complex field service activities for MV/HV switchgear, including installation, commissioning, maintenance, and modernization.

Based in Richmond, VA, this role provides on-site leadership, ensures safe work execution, interfaces with customers and project teams, and mentors junior engineers/technicians. IT requires travel to customer sites, strong diagnostics, problem-solving, and clear communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 8+ years of field experience with MV/HV switchgear, breakers, and protection & control systems.
• Ability to lead field crews and manage on-site execution for complex commissioning/service events.
• Strong knowledge of electrical safety practices (NFPA 70E/OSHA or local equivalents).
• Ability to read and troubleshoot schematics, wiring diagrams, and one-lines.
• Proven skills in writing field reports and test documentation.
• Willingness to travel as required.

Responsibilities

• Lead field execution for switchgear installation, commissioning, and service.
• Plan and perform advanced diagnostics for equipment and protection/control issues.
• Execute acceptance, maintenance, and testing activities.
• Perform protection relay commissioning and verification.
• Interpret and redline electrical drawings and verify as-built conditions.
• Ensure safety requirements and lead on-site safety briefings.
• Mentor junior engineers/technicians and coordinate with PMs, engineering, and supply chain.
