Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to join the clinical operations team in Boston. You will support surgical prep, patient care, vital signs, EKGs, phlebotomy, and post-visit follow-ups, while mentoring junior staff and maintaining quality standards.

The role requires a High School diploma or GED, 1–3 years of related experience, medical assisting credentials or nursing student status, and proficiency with standard computer systems including Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 1-3 years related work experience required.
• Medical assisting experience required through MA/CNA/EMT/PCT certificate or Associates Degree in Medical Assisting; current or former nursing/medical student with at least one clinical rotation; BIDMC competency program completed in 2019; Northeastern Basic Clinical Skills course completed.

Responsibilities

• Performs the responsibilities of a Medical Assistant and oversees the work of others; acts as a mentor and trainer.
• Serves as a resource in own area; guides and assists to resolve problems; leads small projects or work groups.
• Performs patient visits with vital signs, EKGs, phlebotomy and assists during routine procedures; captures information accurately and communicates to clinical staff.
• Performs appropriate departmental screening, lab tests and specimen collection; provides patient instructions for tests/procedures.
• Schedules follow-up tests and appointments using hospital systems; contacts patients with reminders.
• Procures and correlates medical correspondences from Health Information Management, providers and administration.
• Tracks, orders and maintains supplies and equipment; ensures expiration dates; cleans and disinfects equipment.
• Assists patients with ambulation and care functions to ensure comfort and dignity; may transfer patients as needed.
• Queues prescriptions for renewal and reviews medication listings in EMR (Web OMR) for accuracy.
• Ensures availability of equipment and supplies; environment is clean, organized, and stocked.
• Produces a professional, respectful patient experience with strong customer service.
