Job summary

Steese Volunteer Fire Department seeks a Lieutenant/Medic to lead volunteers, perform firefighting and EMS duties, and drive fire apparatus during responses. You will train recruits, oversee vehicle checks, and maintain equipment and records in a dynamic rural Alaska setting.

Requirements include 19+ years old, 2–4 years in structural firefighting, Alaska driver license, BLS, and AK-AEMT or AK-MICP with IS-100/IS-700 certifications.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 19 years.
• Two to four years of active experience as a Structural Firefighter.
• Valid Alaska Driver’s License with three years driving experience.
• Current BLS for Healthcare Providers.
• Current AK-MICP license or AK-AEMT certification.
• IS-100 and IS-700 certificates.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and mentorship to volunteers and recruits.
• Perform emergency firefighting activities including apparatus driving, interior attack, and hazardous materials operations.
• Serve as Lead Medic on EMS calls and assist as Ambulance Driver or Medic as needed.
• Instruct recruits and drivers, organize drills and training classes.
• Conduct daily and weekly vehicle checks and equipment maintenance.
• Maintain stations and grounds and manage PPE, hoses, and records.
• Enter EMS, training, PPE, and inventory data as assigned.
• Follow SOPs, policies, and guidelines and work beyond hours when required.
