Job summary

Sitka Fire Department is seeking an EMS/Fire Captain to operate emergency response apparatus, perform firefighting and medical services, and lead rescue responses. The role requires independent judgment with supervision by the Senior Fire Engineer.

Responsibilities include equipment maintenance, incident command, pre-incident planning, and maintaining a high level of physical readiness. Eligible candidates should have a high school diploma, Firefighter I, EMT certification, and Alaska licenses.

Qualifications

• Minimum requirements include high school diploma or GED.
• Firefighter I certification is required; advanced preferred.
• EMT I/II/III certification license required for work in Alaska.
• IC 100 and IC 700 from FEMA must be possessed.
• Equivalent combinations of experience and training acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain emergency ground apparatus and vehicles.
• Perform daily apparatus inspection and maintenance.
• Maintain firefighting and EMS skills through regular training.
• Prepare maintenance documentation for equipment.
• Provide emergency fire protection and EMS care on calls.
